Beauty, part three for the thrifty chick

Let's be honest.  No one who is in my position of starting a new big girl job has any justification spending $200 plus on makeup.  (To read the back story, click here.) It's difficult for me to say that because I was so adamant about the makeup that I did purchase and was even brave enough to make a video about.  Truth is, my priorities change once the first unexpected expenditure graced me with its presence and practically scared the crap out of me.  Welcome to adulthood, Missy.

Below are some great alternatives to the $200 stuff I purchased a while back.  Hold on to your lash curler kids, we're going in.

Maybelline DreamLiquid Mousse

I have tried a ton of liquid makeups.  I love it because it's easy to apply and feels like a powder with extra coverage for those annoying blemishes, and it does not irritate my sensitive skin.  I only apply 1 1/2 squirts all over my face, and the best part?  No visible make up line.  Can I get an amen?

Best part:  less than $8 per bottle.  I think the Heavens just sang.

Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder Foundation

For those moments when I need a quick touch up without having to reapply "my face" again, this is my go-to life saver.  It comes with an application sponge, but I also keep a little concealer brush with me just in case.

Best part: less than $9; I have used the same container for about two years (and it's still going strong).

Rimmel Lundon Sun Broner

During the summer, I bronze it up a little bit with Rimmel London's Sun Bronzer.  It is light enough to wear I don't look unnatural, but adds that perfect sun-kissed glow when used sparingly.  No need to cake this on unless you're going for that "leather" look.

Best part: less than $5.  I use a bronzer brush, but when used sparingly, any brush will do.

Maybelline Falsies Volume Express Mascara

Other than the wannabe fifties-sixties style hair that is as high as the clouds and as durable as Aquanet hairspray, this is my go-to amazing lashes mascara.  Before applying, I wave it in front of my portable heater so it doesn't clump up easily.  With what seems like every company having mascara ADD during commercials, this is my favorite.

Best part: Less than $6.

I am still searching for the perfect eyeshadow and blush, as I do not use those products very often.  But, for around $30 for the basics, my bank account is much happier than it was previously.

I am still using the Clarisonic Mia 2 Sonic Skin Cleansing System on my face every night to scrub away the dirt and oils, and I can say for absolute certainty that I have noticed a difference in the feel of my skin.  My skin feels softer, clearer, not to mention my make up spreads so much easier and I use less.  I am also still using the DERMAdoctor Ain't Misbehavin Medicated Acne Control Serum, which also helps eliminate blemishes.  Yes, it is pricey (around $45), but it's still much better than the price of the prescription medicine I was using before.

Coming up challenges: the hair battle with shampoo and conditioner and finding that perfectly soft and silky hair, and name-brand clothing without the name-brand price.
