Worth. Luke 21:1-4

When I fly off this mortal earth
And I’m measured up by depth and girth
The Father says now what’s he worth
May he see Jesus death and birth

Don’t measure me by dollar signs
Or bricks and mortar you may find
By Christ alone will I be found
Worthy of that golden crown
Worthy of that golden crown

The value of this life I’ve lived
How did I love, did I forgive
Where did my treasure truly lay
How did I start and end each day

Don’t measure me by battles won

Or some good deed that I have done
By Christ alone will I be found
Worthy of that golden crown
Worthy of that golden crown

May be a pauper or a king
Have nothing or have everything
The question begs, do you belong
Do you sing a resurrection song

Measured by the master’s hand
On only one truth can we stand
By Christ alone will we be found
Worthy of that golden crown
Worthy of that golden crown

-Eden's Edge, "Christ Alone"

"As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” - Luke 21:1-4

I remember being in first grade, in Mrs. Bley's class.  At that time, there were not special education programs that allowed students to mainstream into the regular education classroom, so they were kept separate.  There was a girl in my classroom, whose name escapes me, and instead of playing with her friends on the playground, or sitting with them at lunch at the lunch table, she chose to sit with the other kids.  I didn't really understand why at the time, and I was probably wondering why she would want to sit and play with them instead of me.  As the year was coming to a close, she was asked to leave the classroom during an "end of the year" party, and walked into the classroom next door, where the other children were learning.  I was told later that because of her selfless act of befriending the unfriended and loving the unloved, she was given a reward of playing with her friends for the rest of the day and celebrating the end of the year with making her own ice-cream sundae.

In the middle of my first semester of changing my major from Public Relations to Speech Pathology, I was told that I couldn't make it, and I wasn't worth the effort.  If I would have listened to that professor, who happened to be the department head at the time, I wouldn't be in the position I am right now.  When I broke up with my ex, he told me that I was not worth his time and that he moved on to someone else.  If I didn't break up with him, I wouldn't have realized that I am worth so much more than what I gave him.  Your worth is not measured by success or wealth, deeds, or how many A's you can fit onto one transcript, but how you choose to live your life according to God's word.

I was watching a video about an OSU football player.  He was suspended from a game and had other unknown negative connotations directed towards him.  He also won several awards for his performance on the field, but behind all that is a story worth so much more.  He met a nine-year-old girl at an event who was diagnosed with Leukemia, and ever since then, they have been friends.  He spends time with her when he can, and she is his personal cheerleader every time he puts on his uniform.  I am not sure if the cancer is in remission, but I can tell you that a selfless act is worth so much more in the end than any chemotherapy.

Don't ever underestimate your worth - you never know who you may impact and change their lives forever.
